Jim has tried a wide range of family law cases involving custody, removal, property division and support related issues in Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth and Essex County Probate and Family Courts. In addition to his trial expertise, Jim is certified as a collaborative lawyer by the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Counsel and recognizes that, in most family law cases, a negotiated settlement is the preferred method of resolution. Given his wealth of knowledge and experience, Jim is also frequently called to serve as conciliator or arbitrator to bring contested matters to resolution. Jim has been appointed by the Middlesex Probate and Family Court to serve as a Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) and Special Master in numerous family law cases.
Jim has been recognized as one of the top 100 lawyers in Massachusetts for his accomplishments in and out of the courtroom by “Super Lawyers.”
Prior to practicing family law, Jim served as an Assistant District Attorney in both Middlesex and Bristol Counties where he prosecuted numerous violent felony cases including homicides, sexual assaults and child abuse cases (both jury and jury-waived trials). He served as the Chief Prosecutor in the Middlesex County Narcotics Unit in which he tried numerous cases. He is comfortable handling matters involving Abuse Prevention Orders in both the Family & Probate and District Courts.
Jim serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court Inns of Court, an organization whose mission is to promote civility among members of the Probate and Family Court Bar. Its members include both Judges and attorneys. He also is a member of the Family Law section of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
